Shikaumi shrine

Shikaumi shrine

Shikaumi shrine is located on Shikanoshima island facing Genkai nada which has been a well-known transportation hub since ancient times. The shrine was built in honour of gods such as 'Ryunomiyako' and 'Umigami no souhonsya (A leader of sea gods)'. Yamahomesai (Spring festival) and Gojinkousai (Fall festival) are registered cultural heritage sites in Hukuoka Prefecture.

Kashii shrine

Kashii shrine

It is said that Empress Jinko founded and dedicated this shrine to Emperor Chuai. The main hall, which is reported to be the only Kashii-style building, has been designated as an important national culture property. Also, the Furosui(Water for Eternal Youth) spring is among the 100 specially selected springs of Japan.

Hakozaki shrine

Hakozaki shrine

An area that used to be one of three most beautiful pine groves in Kyushu was transformed into a park in 1876. A statue oh the retired emperor Kameyama stands in the park. Located nearby are Toka Ebisu Shrine, a statue of Nichiren Shonin, the founder of the Nichiren sect of Buddhism, and the Mongolian Invasion Exhibition Hall. Sofukuji Temple, which houses the graves of the Kuroda family, the formal feudal lords of Fukuoka, is also located in the vicinity.

This is the national Tenmangu headquarters, where the famous scholar Michizane Sugawara is enshrined. At the first shrine visit of every New Year and in school examination seasons, the red-painted main hall is flooded with flooded with suppliants.
