Shikaumi shrine
Shikaumi shrine is located on Shikanoshima island facing Genkai nada which has been a well-known transportation hub since ancient times. The shrine was built in honour of gods such as ’Ryunomiyako’ and ‘Umigami no souhonsya (A leader of sea gods)’. Yamahomesai (Spring festival) and Gojinkousai (Fall festival) are registered cultural heritage events in Hukuoka Prefecture.

Kinin park
In 1784, during the Edo period, a gold seal was discovered in Kinin Park. This seal was made to mark China’s claim of “Kanno wano nanokokuou “ (i.e. That the area of Na is a part of Japan, and that Japan itself is a part of China.)
A monument to this historical artefact can still be found in Kirin Park. The original gold seal is currently on display in Hukuoka City museum.

Nokonoshima island
Measuring 12 kilometers along it’s circumference, Nokonoshima island is a beautiful island with a great deal of natural and historical value. It’s tallest mountain is just 195 meters high. A monument by Yamanoueno Okura is loacted in the northern part of the island . Due to it’s importance, Manyoka (The Anthology of Myriad Leaves) was once placed under the protective guard of the Sakimori.

Dazaifu Tenmangu
This is the national Tenmangu headquarters, where the famous scholar Michizane Sugawara is enshrined. At the first shrine visit of every new year and in school examination seasons, the red-painted main hall is flooded with flooded with suppliants. The precincts are studded with poem-inscribed monuments to Basho Matsuo and Isamu Yoshii. It is convenient to use half-day tour buses that depart from Hakata Station.

Nagasaki

Hiroshima
